Community & Social Support

As explained, gay and bisexual men who have sex with men (GBMSM) suffer from high levels of stigma and discrimination, which leads to underemployment, high rates of alcoholism and drug use, and debilitating mental health challenges. AheadKenya supports the NRHS social programs designed with community input to address these psycho-social needs. Typical donor funding covers only essential clinical services, yet providing GBMSM-affirming activities valued by the community reduces risky behaviors and improves clinical outcomes. Some of the activities supported are: Movie Mondays – topical discussions; Therapy Tuesdays – group therapy; Coffee Wednesdays – alcohol and drug use reduction; Therapy Thursdays – HIV-positive support groups; Cultural Fridays – artistic expression; St Sebastian Sundays – spiritual communion.
